Many people think that “going on a diet” is what they must do when they have gained too much weight. The thought process is to give up or avoid certain foods for a certain amount of time until the desired weight is lost.

But as we all know, once the dieter goes back to their normal eating habits, the weight will come back, and sometimes they will end up weighing more than before!

That said, it is better to think of the dietary change as a “lifestyle change” and to think of your weight and health in a long-term time frame.

Many will scoff at this and say that I AM NOT GIVING UP PASTA, BREAD, AND SWEETS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! Why even try if they’ll be going back to those favorite comfort foods in the future?

In this article, I am going to show you the process of thinking that goes with a low-carb/Keto style lifestyle that will help keep you on track toward good health without making large sacrifices.

INTRO TO LOW-CARB DIETING BASICS

The diet focuses on cutting your net carbs down to 100 grams or less.

Keto diets may go as low as 20, and other low-carb diets will focus on 50 or less.

Low-carb diets are known to reduce weight quickly and those promising results can be very motivational. Some people get a type of “carb flu” in the beginning due to the dietary change and the body’s shedding of extra stored carbs. That will usually pass within 10 days for most people.

Good quality fats will be the fuel that the body will run on instead of sugar which causes blood sugar spiking that makes the body store more fat and causes havoc with major hormones.

Thus the main diet will consist of high-quality fats, mainly monounsaturated and saturated fats. These include butter, animal fats, olive oil, and avocado oils.

High-quality protein is also a component of the diet. Carbs are limited to non-starchy vegetables, low-sugar fruits like berries, and some dairy products.

HOW DO I DEAL WITH LIMITED CHOICES? CAN I DO IT FOR A LONG TIME? WILL I BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN THIS DIET?
